How can I tell if my cat has worms?
In the early stages of infestation, the signs aren't easy to spot as the worms remain hidden inside your pet's gut which is why regular worming is important.
Look out for:
Visible worms or eggs in the poop or fur.
Pets being sick; check for visible worms.
Bloated tummies.
Lethargy, increased appetite and weight loss.
Diarrhoea with blood.
Itchy bottom and scooting (scooting is the official term for a pet dragging it's bum along the ground!).

My pet isn't showing any signs of infection should I still worm them?
The signs of worm infestation aren't always obvious. That's why regular worming is important to keep your pet happy and healthy. Regular worming also helps reduce human infestations. Cats are natural hunters and tend to pick up worms from rodents.

How long does ITCH Wormer for Cats last?
It's recommended to treat your cat every 3 months unless otherwise advised. In some instances, vets advise a monthly worming programme, for instance if your cat lives with small children or those with auto-immune deficiencies, eats a raw diet or likes to hunt. We'll personalise your pet's plan accordingly depending on the details you share with us.

Is there a connection between fleas and worms?
Fleas can be infected with the larval stage of the flea tapeworm. If your cat swallows an infected flea, this could result in a tapeworm infestation. It is important to treat your cat for fleas alongside treating them for worms.

Are there any side effects to using ITCH Wormer for Cats?
In extremely rare cases mild and short-lived digestive tract disorders such as excessive salivation and / or vomiting may occur. It could also affect the nervous system with loss of balance being a symptom.

Can I use ITCH Wormer for Cats with other worming products?
It's not advised to do this. Please chat to your vet about this.

Can I use ITCH Wormer for Cats alongside other medication?
Don't use simultaneously with Piperazine compounds as they may block the action of Pyrantel embonate contained in ITCH Wormer for Cats. If you are uncertain please always chat to your vet.

Is my cat at more risk at certain times of the year?
Your cat is at risk for intestinal worms throughout the year. Roundworm eggs that are passed into the environment from other infected cats are very resilient and can survive environmental extremes for a year or more. Cats can also pick up intestinal worms from hunting and swallowing infected fleas

Is it necessary to worm an indoor cat?
Unfortunately, even if your cat never ventures outside, they can still be at risk for intestinal worms. Fleas and rodents can carry worm larvae, and it's often impossible to stop them from getting into your house. If your cat ingests an infected flea, common during grooming, or if they catch an infected mouse, they can become infected with worms.

Can worms affect me and my family?
Unfortunately, humans can be infected by Toxocara roundworms. Most often children are infected by playing in contaminated soil and accidentally ingesting previously digested worm eggs. Gross! Although rare, the worms can then cause eye, lung and neurological signs as they migrate through the body.
Luckily, regular deworming of pets minimises this risk. Keep children away from areas where pets go to the loo. Sandpits are best covered to prevent cats using them as litter boxes. If this does happen, remove the poop promptly and wash your hands thoroughly.
In the UK, tapeworm species usually cause few symptoms and are easily treated. European species can cause serious, life threatening problems.

My pet isn't showing any signs of infection should I still deworm them?
There are not always visible signs that your pet has worms. Regular worming is important to help protect their health and reduce the risk of infestations in humans.

How long does ITCH Wormer Plus for Dogs last?
It's recommended to deworm your dog every 3 months. There may be situations when more frequent treatment is necessary, especially in roundworm infestations. Don't use simultaneously with Piperazine compounds as they may block the action of pyrantel embonate contained in ITCH Wormer Plus tablets for dogs.
If you are uncertain please always check with your vet.

What else can I do to reduce the risk from worms?
Cleaning up your dog's poo regularly is a great way to reduce the risk. A single dog roundworm (Toxocara canis) can produce up to 85,000 eggs a day, and all these are excreted when your dog goes to the loo. Cleaning up poo removes these eggs from the environment so they're not able to infect other dogs and possibly people.

Itch Flea Treatment

How does ITCH Flea kill fleas and ticks?
Itch Flea products are applied topically to your pet's skin to prevent and treat external parasites including fleas, ticks and lice and contain two active ingredients called fipronil and s-methoprene.
Fipronil kills live adult fleas, lice and ticks on contact by interfering with the parasites' central nervous systems. This leads to paralysis and death. (Sorry fleas!)
S-methoprene works by penetrating the shell of newly laid eggs or by being absorbed through the immature flea's' body surface to prevent their growth and further development into adults, thereby limiting an ongoing infestation.
Following application of the product these ingredients are stored in the hair follicles and oil glands of your pet's coat and distributed over the skin and coat for a month, killing fleas and ticks as they come into contact with your pet's skin.

How does my dog or cat get fleas?
There are a number of ways fleas can easily invade your home and make themselves comfortable on your pet and furniture:
  • If your dog socialises with other dogs when out on a walk, they can pick up fleas from their new friends.
  • Your dog or cat can catch them from other household pets. You might not have noticed your pet cat or rabbit scratching more than usual, but if they aren't treated too, they could easily transfer fleas to your dog.
  • Wild animals such as foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels and rabbits can transport fleas into your back garden, and your pet could pick them up from there.
  • If you come into contact with fleas yourself, these pesky parasites can hitch a ride on you or your clothing into your home.

How long does it take before ITCH flea starts working?
Itch Flea kills fleas within 24 hours and ticks and lice within 48 hours after treatment.

Do fleas and ticks have to bite my pet for ITCH flea to start working?
As a monthly preventative product Itch flea doesn't require fleas or ticks to bite your pet to work. It kills on contact working through the parasite's outer shell. If your pet has an existing active flea infestation the parasites will already be biting your pet until the product is applied and starts to work. We recommend routine applications each month to ensure ongoing prevention. We'll send you your treatment exactly when your pet needs it.

How old does my pet need to be?
ITCH Flea can be applied to:
Cats from 8 weeks old weighing 1kg or more.
Dogs from 8 weeks old weighing 2kg or more.

Do I need to apply more than once a month?
ITCH Flea works for 30 days. You only need to apply it to your pet once a month.
Although ITCH Flea protects against fleas in pets for up to 8 weeks, we recommend monthly treatment to tackle the equally pesky ticks and lice.

Why am I seeing more fleas on my pet after applying ITCH Flea?
Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they are killed. If you see fleas after treating your pet it is an indication that the treatment is working.
Itch Flea works on contact to kill adult fleas and immature stages of development. If you have an existing infestation in your home, fleas could continue to jump onto your pet but will die when they come into contact with the product on your pet. If fleas persist after treatment, we would suggest a household flea spray to help break the flea life cycle and kill fleas living in your pet's immediate environment which are yet to make contact with your pet. These sprays similarly work on the parasites' central nervous systems, killing them. It's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions as these products can be toxic to some species. We also recommend regular vacuuming before and after spraying the house, car and areas frequented by your pet. If possible, wash your pet's bedding regularly at 60℃ to help protect against re-infestation.

How long after application can my pet be bathed or go swimming?
ITCH Flea is effective for 30 days. However, it's best to avoid situations where your pet could become drenched in water for at least 48 hours after application, for example swimming or bathing. Itch Flea could be removed from the skin and compromise treatment. Schedule in bath or swim time at least two days after application or just before. This way, your pet will be parasite-free, clean and fresh!

My dog/cat spends most of their time indoors, do I still need to use ITCH Flea treatments?
Even indoor pets can get fleas. Fleas can find their way into your home on clothing or other animals. It's still important to regularly protect your dog or cat with a flea product.

Can I use ITCH Flea if my pet is on medication?
Before using ITCH Flea please check with your vet that it's safe to use with your pet's medication.

Can ITCH Flea be used on other animals (other than Dogs and Cats)?
ITCH Flea should ONLY be used on dogs and cats. Please DO NOT USE on Rabbits.

Does ITCH Flea kill anything other than fleas and ticks?
Yes, ITCH Flea kills biting lice.

How do I apply ITCH Flea to my pet?
Choose a time when your pet is calm. Have treats nearby to reward good behaviour. If your pet is boisterous or doesn't like being handled, get someone to help you. Part the hair on the back of your pet's neck, snap the top of the pipette, and apply the liquid to the exposed skin. Make sure to use the full pipette. Once applied, reward for good behaviour. Always apply to the back of the neck, to avoid your pet licking it off. Don't apply to broken skin. Please avoid contact with your pets' eyes and leave the area to dry before cuddling your pet. For cats we recommended they stay inside for a few hours to make sure they are showing normal behaviour.
For pet owners, please avoid getting the product on your skin, or in your mouth or eyes. If you do get this in your eyes, immediately rinse with clean water. If you get this on your skin wash the area with clean soap and water. If you accidently swallow the treatment please seek medical advice immediately and show the package details to your doctor.

Do fleas pose a serious health threat to my pet?
Fleas can cause irritation to your pet. In some cases, fleas can cause Flea Allergic Dermatitis (FAD) which is a hypersensitive reaction to flea bites where your pet should see a vet. Fleas may also transmit tapeworms to your pet. Tapeworms live inside your pet's intestines, causing irritation, tiredness, weight loss and tummy upset.

What is the likelihood that ticks could transmit Lyme disease to my pet?
Ticks have now been shown to carry and transmit Lyme disease, not just to pets, but humans too. Lyme disease attacks the nervous system and can cause muscle aches, flu-like symptoms, and in extreme circumstances loss of movement. Tick prevention is essential to protect pets and humans from Lyme disease.

If I notice a tick on my pet, what's is the best course of action?
Tick removers are the best method of removing ticks. They are used to safely remove the tick, without leaving behind the head which could cause infection. Applying ITCH Flea to protect future tick infestation is advised. Cats are especially good at self-grooming, so you might feel they don't need as much help removing ticks.

Should I use ITCH Flea on my pet all year round or only during the warmer months?
Fleas can infest your home and remain dormant in their egg state for many years. During the winter months, fleas can live quite comfortably in homes with central heating, and continue infesting your pet all year round. The ITCH Flea monthly subscription service makes it easy for you to conquer fleas all year round.

What is the difference between ITCH Flea and oral flea products?
As a spot-on treatment the main benefit of ITCH Flea is the ease of application especially if your pet is reluctant to take a tablet. ITCH Flea spreads across your pet's coat and kills on contact. Oral flea products have to be swallowed by your pet and these usually work by being distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream and transferred to the tissues underneath the skin killing fleas only when they bite your pet. For more advice please speak to your vet.

Do I need a prescription for ITCH Flea?
No, ITCH Flea is a non-prescription product.

Are there any side effects of ITCH Flea?
Side effects are possible with most medication.
Although side effects with ITCH Flea are very unusual, we ask all pet owners to be aware of behavioural changes or skin reactions. Rarely, some pets may experience a mild irritation where the product has been applied. It's important to apply the appropriately sized product correctly to prevent your pet from accidentally ingesting any of the liquid. Oral ingestion of the product could cause excessive saliva production, sickness and/or diarrhoea. If you notice potential side effects speak to a member of the ITCH Pet team or your vet.

Can ITCH Flea be used to treat Flea Allergy Dermatitis in my dog?
ITCH flea is not suitable to treat FAD. If a reaction occurs from a flea bite, please speak to your vet immediately.

Which ITCH Flea product is right for my dog?
The beauty of Itch, is that by sharing your pet's details with us we can tailor the correct dosage of treatment, personalised for your pet and send it to your letterbox, exactly when your pet needs it.

Is there an expiry date for ITCH Flea?
The expiry date can be found on the product packaging for ITCH Flea.

My Pet isn't very well, can I still use ITCH Flea?
ITCH Flea should not be used on sick, convalescent animals or animals with known cases of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. If your dog or cat is showing signs of illness, please chat to your vet before using ITCH Flea

How does Itch Flea protect the home from fleas?
Itch Flea:
- Kills adults fleas and ticks
- Kills flea eggs and larvae on your pet so can't fall onto furniture, upholstery and carpets to lie dormant and hatch later
- Prevents all fleas stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) from developing
- Works for four weeks at a time
However, Itch Flea will not get rid of an established flea infestation. For that, we recommend a household fleas spray. Watch this space for ITCH mega spray.
