  • 6 REASONS WHY IT MIGHT BE TIME TO CHANGE YOUR CAT’S DIET

There are a few reasons why you might need to consider changing your cat’s diet, including:

    Improving the quality
Perhaps you've come to the realisation your cat’s diet could be improved by switching up their food to something more nutritious!

    Age
It's important to feed your cat the right nutrition for their life stage to make sure they're getting all the goodness they need to stay happy and healthy.

    Weight
If your cat needs to lose some weight, you might need to consider reducing their portion size or switching to a diet-friendly formula.

    Level of activity
Just like with us humans, if your cat’s activity levels increase or decrease, this will have a knock-on effect on their weight.

    Health conditions/allergies
Our cats can develop food sensitivities and allergies too. If your cat’s diet disagrees with them, you might notice side-effects such as itchy skin, vomiting, diarrhoea or excessive trumps. If you notice any of these signs, speak to your vet and let them know what food your cat is currently on so they can advise if they need to switch.

  • KEY NUTRIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR DOG’s DIET (& WHAT THEY MEAN)

    CARBOHYDRATES

Why do I need to look for carbohydrates in my cat’s diet?
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose which provides the energy our cats’ bodies and brains need to function. The 3 types of carbohydrates found in food are sugar, starch and fibre.

Carbohydrate sources in Clean Bowls Chicken and Salmon for Adult Cats include:
    Sweet Potato:
This provides a rich source of disease-fighting antioxidants, vitamin A for healthy eyes and skin, and fibre for digestive health.

    PROTEIN

Why do I need to look for protein in my cat’s diet?
Protein is an essential nutrient which is needed to support the building and repairing of our cat’s muscle, bone, skin, hair (and almost any other body tissue)! It's also beneficial for their immune system and provides an excellent energy source - great fuel for zoomies.

Protein sources in Clean Bowls Chicken and Salmon for Adult Cats include:
    Chicken:
Our responsibly sourced chicken provides a lean protein source, rich in essential amino acids. Your cat won't be able to produce essential amino acids quickly enough or in sufficient quantities to support their health, so make sure this is included in your cat’s diet.
Salmon: This provides a great source of amino acids which have anti-inflammatory properties to help maintain healthy skin, coats and joints.

    FATS

Why do I need to look for fats in my cat’s diet?
Fat is the main stored source of energy in our cats’ bodies. Fats form an essential part of a balanced diet. Some vitamins (A, D, E and K) can't be absorbed without fat (you may have heard them being referred to as fat-soluble vitamins).

Fat sources in Clean Bowls Chicken and Salmon for Adult Cats include:
    Salmon and salmon oil
: Salmon supports cognitive and visual development, what with it being such a rich source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Omega 3 also has anti-inflammatory properties. Hello healthy skin and glossy coat!

    VITAMINS & MINERALS

Why do I need to look for vitamins and minerals in my cat's diet?
They may only be needed in tiny quantities, but vitamins are essential for staying healthy - for us as well as our pets! Minerals are elements needed by our cat’s bodies to develop and function normally.

Vitamin & mineral sources in Clean Bowls Chicken and Salmon for Adult Cats include:
    Sweet potato:
This is a wonderful source of vitamins A & C, in addition to being rich in antioxidants, potassium and magnesium. Potassium is an electrolyte needed for healthy muscle & blood vessel function. Magnesium supports muscle health, as well as organ health and function.
Chicken: Chicken is rich in B vitamins and iron - these are both needed to maintain good health!
Yucca extract: Yucca extract contains high levels of vitamin C. This helps to support healthy ageing and reduce inflammation.

  • HOW TO SWITCH FOODS

Follow these steps to switch your cat from one type of food to another - with minimal risk of upset tums in the process.

    Days 1-2
Feed your cat 25% new food mixed in with 75% of their previous food.

    Days 3-5
Feed your cat a 50/50 mix of new and old food

    Days 5-7
Nearly there! Feed your cat 75% new food with 25% of their previous food.

    Day 8
If there haven't been any upset tums or other side effects since you started your cat’s  diet change, feel free to complete the transition and feed them exclusively on their new food.
