  • 6 REASONS WHY IT MIGHT BE TIME TO CHANGE YOUR DOG’S DIET

There are a few reasons why you might need to consider changing your dog’s diet, including:

    Improving the quality
Perhaps you've come to the realisation your dog’s diet could be improved by switching up their food to something more nutritious. The best pups deserve the best puppy food, afterall!

    Age
It's important to feed your dog the right nutrition for their life stage to make sure they're getting all the goodness they need to stay happy and healthy.

    Weight
If your dog needs to lose a few pounds, you might need to consider reducing their portion size or switching to a diet-friendly formula.

    Level of activity
Just like with us humans, if your dog’s activity levels increase or decrease, this will have a knock-on effect on their weight.

    Health conditions/allergies
Our pups can develop food sensitivities and allergies too. If your dog’s diet disagrees with them, you might notice side-effects such as itchy skin, vomiting, diarrhoea or excessive trumps. If you notice any of these signs, speak to your vet and let them know what food your dog is currently on so they can advise if they need to switch.

  • KEY NUTRIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR DOG’S DIET (& WHAT THEY MEAN)

    CARBOHYDRATES

Why do I need to look for carbohydrates in my dog’s diet?
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose which provides the energy our dog’s bodies and brains need to function. The 3 types of carbohydrates found in food are sugar, starch and fibre.

Carbohydrate sources in Clean Bowls Chicken with Rice for Adult Dogs include:

Oats: Oats provide an excellent source of energy. They're packed with soluble fibre - this creates a gel-like consistency when it combines with water, helping to contribute to perfect poops.
Rice: Rice is very easy to digest - you may have given it to your dog in the past if they've had an upset tum.
Linseed: Linseeds are anti-inflammatory, they help improve the condition of your pet’s skin and coat, they give their immune system a boost AND help to prevent constipation. What a nutritional powerhouse!

    PROTEIN

Why do I need to look for protein in my dog’s diet?
Protein is an essential nutrient which is needed to support the building and repairing of our dog’s muscle, bone, skin, hair (and almost any other body tissue)! It's also beneficial for their immune system and provides an excellent energy source - great fuel for zoomies.

Protein sources in Clean Bowls Chicken with Rice for Adult Dogs include:

    Chicken:
Our responsibly sourced chicken provides a lean protein source, rich in essential amino acids. Your dog won't be able to produce essential amino acids quickly enough or in sufficient quantities to support their health, so make sure this is included in your dog's diet.

    FATS

Why do I need to look for fats in my dog’s diet?
Fat is the main stored source of energy in our dog’s bodies. Fats form an essential part of a balanced diet. Some vitamins (A, D, E and K) can't be absorbed without fat (you may have heard them being referred to as fat-soluble vitamins).

Fat sources in Clean Bowls Chicken with Rice for Adult Dogs include:

Omega 3: Omega 3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties which can help to improve mobility, as well as supporting healthy skin, a glossy coat and helping with wound healing.

    VITAMINS & MINERALS

Why do I need to look for vitamins and minerals in my dog's diet?
They may only be needed in tiny quantities, but vitamins are essential for staying healthy - for us as well as our pets! Minerals are elements needed by our dog’s bodies to develop and function normally.

Vitamin & mineral sources in Clean Bowls Chicken with Rice for Adult Dogs include:

Chicken: Chicken is rich in B vitamins and iron - these are both needed to maintain good health!

Yucca extract: Yucca extract contains high levels of vitamin C. This helps to support healthy ageing and reduce inflammation.

  • HOW TO SWITCH FOOD

Follow these steps to switch your dog from one type of food to another - with minimal risk of upset tums in the process.

    Days 1-2
Feed your dog 25% new food mixed in with 75% of their previous food.

    Days 3-5
Feed your dog a 50/50 mix of new and old food.

    Days 5-7
Nearly there! Feed your dog 75% new food with 25% of their previous food.

    Day 8
If there haven't been any upset tums or other side effects since you started your dog’s diet change, feel free to complete the transition and feed them exclusively on their new food.
