Human leg with flea bite

Do fleas come out more in the day?

No. Fleas don't have a day or night cycle like us human, or other insects do. Their activity depends more on the presence of a pet or person - warmth, vibration, and carbon dioxide - rather than the time of day.

Adult fleas will jump onto a host whenever they detect movement, body heat, or exhaled carbon dioxide. So you can be bit by a flea during day and night. If your home has a flea infestation you may notice more fleas during the day simply because people and pets are moving around more, which stimulates them. Outside of your house, fleas often stay in shaded, humid areas because they dry out easily in direct sunlight. So they may be less noticeable in hot, sunny conditions, not because they're inactive, but because they're avoiding dry environments.

If you're asking yourself this question because you're suddenly seeing more fleas during the day, it could mean:

• A growing infestation.
• Increased activity from pets or people stirring them up.
• Warmer indoor temperatures speeding up their life cycle.

To clear fleas in the home and to stop flea bites, treat your pet with vet approved flea treatment, like Itch Flea for Cats and Dogs which kills fleas and flea eggs to stop infestation. Regular monthly flea treatment is recommended by vets to prevent fleas on cats and dogs, especially for pets with Flea Allergy Dermatitis.
