Can fleas live on a doormat?

Yes fleas can live and breed on a doormat.

This is because a doormat is dense and warm which are the ideal conditions for fleas to survive and lay eggs.

We'd recommend:

  • Check and shake your doormat: Take your doormat outside and regularly shake it off to remove any loose fleas and eggs.

  • Wash your doormat: If your mat can be put in the washing machine, get it in there at least once a month for a proper clean. If you find fleas in your home or on your pet, make sure to wash your doormat when you clean your home (on 60 degrees Celsius or higher).

  • Vacuum your doormat regularly: The vibrations of your hoover will hatch any flea eggs that are lurking in your doormat and gives you the chance to kill them. Use a flea treatment that is designed to kill fleas in your home, like Itch Flea House Spray for Homes.

  • Treat your pet: If fleas are in your doormat, they are living in other parts of your home and on your pet. Use a vet-approved flea treatment every month on your pet to kill any fleas that are biting them and stop them from coming back in the future, like the Itch Flea Treatment for Cats and Itch Flea Treatment for Dogs
