What smells do fleas hate?

Fleas don't actually hate smells, in the way that we do but you can try to repel them with strong scents like:

Lavender which is mildly repellent to fleas.

Peppermint is a strong minty scent may discourage fleas, but essential oil should not be applied directly to pets.

• Cedarwood
and cedar oil are commonly used in flea-repellent products.

• Lemongrass contains compounds that may repel fleas.

• Citronella
better known for mosquitoes, but may also deter fleas.

• Rosemary
is sometimes used in homemade flea sprays for the home.

• Eucalyptus may have some repellent effect, but can be toxic to pets if used improperly.

These odours need to be in concentrated form to work and realistically will only repel fleas temporarily - They aren't a solution. To effectively get rid of fleas use a vet approved flea treatment, like Itch Flea Treatment for Cats & Dogs. This kills all adult fleas on your pet within 24 hours, and stops the development of flea eggs and larvae to eliminate 100% of fleas. Natural flea treatments can help reduce a mild or small flea infestation but they won't get rid of fleas quickly.
